WTJU Joins PMFA

Nathan Moore, General Manager of WTJU, offered the following about why they decided to participate.

“As a community radio station, it's incumbent on WTJU to reflect the community we serve. And we need to do better at that. I'm impressed with the action steps laid out by Public Media For All -- they're very smart steps that are clear and doable, while also addressing real structural issues. WTJU needs to work to be more relevant to the diverse people who make up our community and help address divisions and problems that face our community (and beyond). These steps combined with other inclusivity work offer a needed road map to help make that happen.”

Austin PBS Joins PMFA

Lori Bolding, Acting CEO of Austin PBS, offered the following about why they decided to participate.

The last few years have seen media companies everywhere address the lack of diversity and equity in content, staff, management and consumers. Energized by this cultural shift, Austin PBS is actively laying the groundwork for real, lasting change in our organization. Our vision to be a leader in public media requires us to stand in strong support of station employees, public media colleagues, community partners and viewers who demand meaningful, intentional improvements in inclusion, diversity, equity and accessibility.

Austin PBS is proud to stand with Public Media for All, so together we can challenge sources of systemic bias and improve representation within our organization, our community and across public media.”

WUKY Commits To Diversity

Tom Godell, General Manager of WUKY, shared the following update as part of their participation with PMFA, and their commitment to our DEI action items for organizations. They plan to update the Commitment To Diversity page on their website with the status of various PMFA action items as they progress in their DEI work. WUKY serves as an example of how stations that are university licensees can join PMFA.

“WUKY affirms that in a country and a community that has been rapidly diversifying, where people of color will be the majority in a couple of decades, it is imperative to the survival of our organization and the success of our service to rapidly diversify our programming, audiences, donors, staff and leadership.

To accomplish this WUKY commits to:

  • Present more diverse voices on air and seek out more diverse sources for news.

  • Reach more diverse audiences through our broadcasts, new media and community events.

  • Attract more diverse listeners, members and underwriters.

  • Increase efforts to diversify the WUKY staff.

Beyond the clear business case for diversity, WUKY is taking these steps because these actions are right, just, fair, and inclusive.

Adopted and in effect: June 2021”

WDAV Joins PMFA

Frank Dominguez, General Manager of WDAV, offered the following about why they decided to participate.

“WDAV’s participation in Public Media for All is a way to assure that our station is accountable to our professed commitment to Diversity, Equity and Inclusion. As a leading station in the classical music format, we feel a responsibility to model for other stations like ours how they may embrace and accomplish DEI work. We also seek to be true to our stated mission to “build community through classical music,” and realize that this is only possible if our programming, staffing and business practices fully reflect the nation we live in and the region we serve, and respect the diversity of ethnicities, cultures and perspectives they represent. We believe fervently that pursuing these objectives will make our station stronger, will serve our audience better, and will uphold the highest ideals of public broadcasting.”
